Directed by Steve Pink, the film is based on the 1974 David Mamet play Sexual Perversity in Chicago and is a remake of the 1986 film of the same name. The remake is set in Los Angeles, California where the original film was set in Chicago, Illinois. Filming took place in late 2012 in Los Angeles. The film was produced on a budget of $13 million.The film premiered at the Pan African Film Festival on February 11, 2014. It was released in theaters on Valentine's Day.

When Danny meets Debbie at Mother Malone's a bar in the Chicago Gold Coast, the two start a relationship from a one-night stand.
