The Best of Me : Dawson and Amanda met and fell in love while in high school, a golden period in their lives. Twenty-one years later, they meet by chance in the town they had both left after the man who had taken Dawson in to live with him dies. Amanda wants to stay away from Dawson because their relationship ended badly, but they start to talk about old times. As soon as it seems Dawson loves her, Amanda turns him down because she is married and has children. However, she later plans to split up with her husband, and she leaves Dawson a voicemail. Before anything more can happen between them, Dawson is attacked by his brothers, who think he is worthless, and is almost pushed in front of a moving train. Dawson knocks out his brothers, but after calling 911, he is spotted by his estranged father across the railroad tracks and shot point blank.Meanwhile, Amanda's son was in an accident and receives a heart from a donor. Her mother comes to tell her of the tragic death of Dawson, and she is heartbroken. The movie ends with Amanda's son calling from college saying that since it has been a year since the accident, he has learned the identity of his donor and wonders if his mother knew Dawson Cole.
